How to Adopt a Cat
At PAWS (Protection of Animals in Wakefield Society), we are an all-volunteer, non-profit rescue dedicated to matching our foster cats and kittens with loving forever homes.
We focus on finding a successful fit for every family and animal in our care.

All of our rescues live in nurturing foster homes in the area, where they receive individualized care, socialization, and veterinary attention. To start the process of adoption view our available cats.

You can also visit PAWS Meet & Greet (adoption hours) every other Saturday 10-12 PM at the PAWS office, 411 Lowell Street, Wakefield, MA.
Call the office phone number (781)-300-0003 to confirm hours (only answered when open). Not all cats online will be at the adoption hours.
Cats in Intake: We frequently have cats transitioning into our foster program. If you do not see your perfect match today, submit an application—your ideal companion may be entering our care soon!
Follow us on Social we often show cats on Facebook and Instagram before they go online.
Note on Bonded Pairs: Cats who have spent their lives together or thrive best with a feline buddy are placed in pairs to ensure their emotional well-being.
Fill Out an Application
Finding the right match ensures a smooth transition for both you and your new pet. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Complete our online adoption application. Please provide accurate details regarding your household, pet history, and living arrangements.
Even if you are not sure which cat is the right one for you, you can still fill out an application. We may have a cat that fits your needs. After filling it out, please only click the submit button once.
If you are not able to to complete the online application, please email us at PAWS01880@gmail.com.
Our volunteer adoption coordinators conduct standard validation checks, including:
Veterinary Verification: Confirming current or past pets are up to date on vaccinations and routine care.
Landlord Approval: If renting, verifying that cats are permitted on the property.
Personal References: Speaking with non-family references listed on your form.
Once approved, we will arrange a virtual or in-person meeting with the cat in their foster setting or our office so you can interact with the kitty before making a decision.
To finalize the adoption you sign the adoption agreement, pay the adoption fee, and welcome your new cat home!
